Faculty mentoring of the doctoral trainees is an essential part of the program. As Graduate Research Assistants, supported students are paired with a faculty mentor in the student's department. Faculty mentors help guide trainees successfully through their graduate careers. Mentors interact regularly with doctoral students, focusing on skill development in quantitative and qualitative data analysis, scientific writing, manuscript preparation, proposal development, and oral presentations. As a result, doctoral trainees become involved in many aspects of their mentor's current research. Involvement in ongoing, funded research projects provides an inside view of how the research process actually unfolds from start to finish.
The Predoctoral Student Handbook contains the Center for Research on Ethnicity, Culture, and Health’s (CRECH) primary statements about valuable information it offers predoctoral scholars, while being supported by the NIH doctoral research educational program titled, “Promoting Ethnic Diversity in Public Health Research Education.” It will also help connect students with the wide range of offices and professionals around the campus dedicated to supporting graduate students committed to reduction and eventual elimination of racial and ethnic health disparities.
